Church of Philadelphia

1755 A.D. OR 1798 – 1844 A.D.

Philo = love

Delpho = brother. It was known as the church of brotherly love.

1.      Revelation 3:7 “And to the angel of the ________ in _____________ write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that _________, and no _____ __________; and _______ , and no ______ ___________;” Those who studied the prophecies of Daniel were convinced that the 2,300 days would end in 1844, with the return of Christ from His sanctuary. Christ said to them, I AM an open door before them. The door to The Most Holy Place opened in 1844. He invites them to enter with him into the experience of the “cleansing of the sanctuary.” He said behold I come quickly, hold fast to the great light you have from the heavenly sanctuary. “… the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ relating to the shut door could not be separated, and that the time for the commandments of God to shine out with all their importance, and for God's people to be tried on the Sabbath truth, was when the door was opened in the most holy place in the heavenly sanctuary, where the ark is, in which are contained the ten commandments. This door was not opened until the mediation of Jesus was finished in the holy place of the sanctuary in 1844. Then Jesus rose up and shut the door of the holy place, and opened the door into the most holy, and passed within the second veil, where He now stands by the ark, and where the faith of Israel now reaches.” Early Writings 42

2.      Jesus tells the church of Philadelphia I know your works. I have given you an open door. What is the open door? Revelation 3:8 “I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an ______ _________, and ____ ______ can _______ ____: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”

“The true Witness has given us the assurance that He has set before us an open door, which no man can shut. Those who are seeking to be faithful to God may be denied many of the privileges of the world; their way may be hedged up and their work hindered by the enemies of truth; but there is no power that can close the door of communication between God and their souls. The Christian himself may close this door by indulgence in sin, or by rejection of heaven's light. He may turn away his ears from hearing the message of truth, and in this way sever the connection between God and his soul.” 7 Bible Commentary 961

“Voices from within and at the door say, Come. The Saviour's voice earnestly and lovingly invites us: "I counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich." Rev. 3:8, 18.” Christ Object Lessons pages 116-117

We need no priest to go between us and God. We pray to Jesus and our prayers go straight to the throne of God. This time of the church of Philadelphia was a time, in the churches history, that brought evangelical preaching. Men you have heard about like Wesley’s, Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, and many others.

The open door took the gospel to many lands: William Carey to India in 1793; Robret Morrison to china 1807; David Livingston in 1841. There was an open door for Bible societies, the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1804. Then came the American Bible Society in 1816, this time was an open door for God’s word to get out to the people. And now Satan is active, he wants to close the door of light, but Jesus says no man can shut it. Many will turn away from the light and despise it, but it still shines as a clear and distinct rays to help God’s people and bless them. We need to pray for the light to shine on us.

3.      Revelation 3:9 “Behold, I will make them of the __________ of _________, which say they are _________, and _____ _______, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.”

What are some of these things that Jesus was talking about as being from the synagogue of Satan? There are volumes of books on the market today, such as things that bewitch the mind, books written by infidels. (Read) Acts 19:19. Satan had breathed his poisonous breath upon them. There are magical books. Places of attraction, where licentiousness is fostered and indulged. There is a lot of hellish arts. What are they? Things that deal with the symbolism that are used in witchcraft, such as spiritualism, WICCA, The Occult, Ojahi boards, torat cards, and much more these are a part of the synagogue of Satan.

The teachings of evolution, that man evolved and was not made in the image of God. That everything evolved, this does away with creation. The list can go on and on. There is much on TV that would be considered on the dark side, which we know promotes these things we listed above. There is much music that comes from the pen of Satan. We need not have anything to do with the synagogue of Satan as Paul said, we need to bear them.

The sin of the Jews was unbelief. Satan used unbelief and complaining, he sowed seeds of envy in the heart of The Jews. This brought in envy, discord and even hatred against God. They have never accepted Jesus first coming; even today, they are still looking for him to come.

4.      All that keep The Word of God, will have to go through what? Revelation 3:10 “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of ___________, which shall come upon all the world, to ______ _________ that dwell upon the earth.” From the time of the reformation that was began by the great men of the past and those who lived in a spirit of “Brotherly love”, will receive A special seal of approval and protection from Jesus, just before His second coming. Read Revelation 7:2, 3. During the great final time of trouble which will soon come upon the whole world. Jesus will protect them. Read Psalms 91. We will be tried and tested Christ will help us in whatever we have to go through.

5.      Jesus tells us to hold on to the truth, don’t let go. Revelation 3:11 “Behold, _____ _______ ________: hold that ________ which thou hast, that _____ man _____ thy ________.”

They were told in verse 10, be patient and wait. It is our privilege as children of God to hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering. We must be strong in His strength. If we let go of the truth someone can take our crown. Hold on! Jesus said, “I come quickly”. We must believe him and hold fast.

6.      We see that here in Revelation 3:12, that God makes a call for the church of Philadelphia. What is the call? O __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ HRevelation 3:12 “Him that _________- will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will _______ upon him the ________ of my _______, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” “You have no time to lose, but should make diligent efforts to overcome the marked traits in your character, which, if indulged, will close the doors of glory against you. You cannot afford to lose heaven. You now need to make a decided change in your words and deeds, to overcome your avaricious spirit, and to turn your thoughts into the channel of sanctified truth. In short, you need to be transformed. Then God will accept your labors in His cause. You should be a man of such undeviating veracity that the love of gain will not seduce you and no temptation overcome you. The Lord requires of all who profess His name a strict adherence to truth. This will be as salt which has not lost its savor, as a light amid the moral darkness and deception of the world.” 4 Testimonies 356

Jesus will write upon the faithful:

1.      The name of God, The Father the source of their life.

2.      New Jerusalem, their new home

3.      Himself (Jesus), their friend and helper.

“The only hope of any man lies through Jesus Christ. . . . The pure and holy garments are not prepared to be put on by any one after he has entered the gate of the city. All who enter will have on the robe of Christ's righteousness, and the name of God will be seen in their foreheads. This name is the symbol which the apostle saw in vision, and signifies the yielding of the mind to intelligent and loyal obedience to all of God's commandments.” Sons and Daughters of God 370

     7. What is God’s promise to the church of Philadelphia? Revelation 3:12 “Him that overcometh will I make a ______ in the ________ of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my _____ _________”

The precious stones represent the most perfect Christians, who have been refined and polished by the grace of God, and affliction which they have endured with much prayer and patience. Their obedience and love resemble that of the great Pattern. Their lives are beautified and ennobled by self-sacrifice. They will endure the test of the burning day, for they are living stones. "Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out."  8 Redemption 78

than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
